Eco-Friendly Transport: Jammu’s Ambitious Plan for 100 E-Buses In Aug, Smart City, Cleaner Air

30-07-2023 : Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, is gearing up to embrace a greener and more sustainable public transport system with the introduction of a fleet of 100 e-buses in August, as part of the Smart City Project Limited. This significant move is expected to play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions and promoting a cleaner environment for the city.

The procurement of these eco-friendly e-buses is being handled by TATA, a renowned name in the automobile industry. Rahul Yadav, Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation and also the CEO of Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL), confirmed that the city will be receiving a total of 100 e-buses. Among these, 75 nine-meter e-buses are set to serve Jammu city, while an additional 25 twelve-meter vehicles will ply outside the Jammu district.

The authorities are making every effort to ensure a smooth and timely implementation of this transformative project. The entire fleet of e-buses is expected to arrive in the coming days, and operations will commence in August, following successful trials. These e-buses will be equipped with state-of-the-art safety features such as panic buttons, location tracking systems, CCTV cameras, and stop request systems, ensuring reliable, comfortable, and affordable public transportation for the citizens.

Moreover, the city is poised to embrace modern technological advancements, as online metros, mobility cards, and digital payment systems are set to be introduced for e-bus rides, replacing traditional paper tickets. This transition to digital payment systems aims to enhance convenience for commuters while promoting sustainability by reducing paper usage.

To support the operation of the e-buses, a dedicated bus-stand cum charging station and parking bay has been established at Bhagwati Nagar area. This facility will play a crucial role in maintaining and charging the e-buses, ensuring a seamless and efficient transportation service.

The introduction of 100 e-buses represents a significant milestone in Jammu’s journey towards becoming a smart and eco-friendly city. With this sustainable public transport initiative, the city aims to reduce its carbon footprint, combat air pollution, and create a more livable and environmentally conscious urban environment.

The Smart City Project’s commitment to embracing electric mobility is expected to set a positive example for other cities in India, encouraging them to adopt similar eco-friendly transportation solutions. As Jammu moves forward with its sustainable transportation vision, citizens can look forward to a cleaner and greener commute, contributing to the city’s overall progress and well-being.
