Engineer Rashid Questions Omar Abdullah: Will Kashmiris Be Forced to Wait 50 Years for Article 370’s Restoration Under BJP Rule?

Srinagar, 14-10-2024: In a recent press conference held in Bandipora, Engineer Rashid, the Member of Parliament for North Kashmir, posed a provocative question to former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He challenged Abdullah to consider whether, under the continued governance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the people of Kashmir would be required to wait an entire 50 years for the restoration of Article 370.

Addressing reporters on the sidelines of a review meeting at the District headquarters in Bandipora, Rashid accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of shifting his political goals, a maneuver that he believes has ensnared many political leaders in Kashmir. “The political landscape has changed drastically, and it appears that the people are being led to believe in promises that are unlikely to materialize,” Rashid stated, emphasizing the uncertainty surrounding the future of Article 370.

During his visit, Rashid conducted a review of various developmental projects in the Bandipora district, engaging with multiple public delegations to listen to their concerns. He assured the gathered citizens that their grievances would be addressed promptly. To further facilitate this process, Rashid inaugurated a grievance cell office specifically for the residents of Bandipora, providing dedicated helpline numbers to enable individuals to register their complaints easily.

“I urge Prime Minister Modi and Lieutenant Governor Sinha to lend their support to the elected government for the betterment of the people. Kashmir has endured significant hardships over the past five years, and it is time for action,” he added, highlighting the pressing need for governmental support.

Rashid also expressed disappointment with the National Conference, which previously claimed it would restore the political status of Jammu and Kashmir to that of 1953. He noted that this promise now seems distant, as the party appears more focused on securing statehood than addressing the immediate needs of the people. “The restoration of statehood is no longer a priority for them, and it is disheartening to witness such a shift in focus,” he remarked.
