LONDON, Aug 30: England moved closer to sealing a Test series victory over Pakistan after building a commanding lead on the third day of the second Test at Lord’s, with Dan Lawrence playing a crucial role in stabilising the hosts’ second innings.
England ended the rain-affected day at 177 for seven, holding an overall advantage of 357 runs. Lawrence remained unbeaten on 50 from 66 deliveries, producing a composed innings in difficult batting conditions.
The England batter returned to the national side after a lengthy absence and provided valuable resistance after the hosts lost early wickets. His contribution strengthened England’s position as they look to take a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Pakistan’s bowlers found some success, with Mohammad Abbas claiming three wickets during England’s second innings. Abbas has been among Pakistan’s most effective performers with the ball despite the team’s struggles in the series.
Pakistan’s batting, however, has remained a major concern. The visitors have failed to cross 171 in any of their innings across the series, while they were dismissed for only 110 in their first innings at Lord’s.
The match has also been disrupted by persistent rain and poor light, limiting playing time. With improved weather conditions expected, England will look to complete the job and put themselves firmly in control of the series.
