JAMMU, MAY 20: Taranjit Singh Tony, Chairman Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Jammu and Kashmir for Administrative Engagement and Minority Affairs, and District Development Council (DDC) Member Suchetgarh on Saturday termed the decision of holding entrance test for degree college admissions as unjustified and draconian, and demanded that the earlier system of admissions on the basis of merit of 12th class should be reverted.
In a statement issued to media persons, the senior AAP leader said that government through such one sided decisions is squeezing the rights of young lot and if the students will not get united and raise their voice against such arbitrary moves of the government days are not far when the government will start taking them for granted and will impose more of such capricious decision on the people.
Tony said that the age old system of providing admissions to students in colleges on the basis of marks obtained in Class 12 was fair enough and through the new system of entrance the government wanted to earn money and manipulate admissions as veracity of entrance could be well gauged by the fact that genuineness of such tests is always questionable as was the case in recent recruitment scams that were exposed in J&K and central agencies are probing the matter.
Tony said that students fetch marks in 12th class after burning midnight oil therefore mounting more pressure on them is totally unjustified. He asked the students to get united and fight for their rights or else they will have to repent at a later stage.
