Every new law needs discussion in Parliament before implementation: Tony on 3 Criminal laws

Raises concern over unilateral enactment amidst suspension of 146 MPs

JAMMU: Taranjit Singh Tony, General Secretary of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee and DDC Suchetgarh, strongly criticized the implementation of three new criminal laws by the BJP government, highlighting serious procedural concerns.

Speaking at a meeting in Chatha here today, the senior Congress leader emphasized that the passage of these laws lacked the necessary parliamentary debate and discussion, which are fundamental to the democratic process. “Every new law requires thorough deliberation in Parliament before implementation. Unfortunately, the BJP government has circumvented this crucial step,” he stated.

Tony described the rushed implementation as “yet another instance of bulldozing existing laws without adequate debate and discussions,” criticizing the government’s approach amidst the suspension of 146 Members of Parliament from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Tony pointed out, “These far-reaching Bills were hurried through Parliament without proper scrutiny, including during their passage through the Standing Committee on Home Affairs. Stakeholders across the country were not adequately consulted, and dissenting voices, including detailed objections from several MPs including those from the Indian National Congress, were ignored.”

He said, “After the recent electoral setback, Prime Minister Modi and the BJP are attempting to portray respect for constitutional norms. However, the truth remains that the enactment of these three criminal laws today was forced through by suspending 146 MPs.”

The senior Congress leader Tony asserted, “India cannot afford to allow this ‘Bulldozer Justice’ to undermine our parliamentary democracy. The Congress party stands firm against such unilateral actions and calls for a return to respectful and consultative lawmaking processes.”
