Farooq Abdullah Applauds Congress Manifesto for Lok Sabha Polls, Calls for Implementation and Oversight of National Probe Agencies
Srinagar, 05-04-2024 : National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah expressed his approval of the Congress manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections, stating his hope for its implementation. Speaking after Jumatul Vida’s prayers at Hazratbal Shrine, he commended the manifesto’s content, emphasizing the significance of its proposals.
Abdullah further advocated for national probe agencies to be brought under parliamentary oversight, suggesting it as a positive step towards accountability and transparency. However, he criticized the BJP for engaging in divisive politics, particularly by inciting tensions between Hindus and Muslims. He expressed concern over such tactics and urged against their success, emphasizing the importance of unity and harmony among communities.
Meanwhile, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti also voiced her grievances, highlighting the ongoing restrictions imposed in Kashmir. She lamented the continued shutdown of the region’s main religious and cultural center on Jumatul Vida, noting the persisting effects of the actions taken on August 5, 2019. Mufti described Kashmir as being transformed into an “open-air prison,” reflecting on the enduring challenges faced by the local population.
