Farooq Abdullah Attends Iftar After Court Recalls Arrest Warrant

National Conference chief appears at gathering in Jammu hours after court recalls non-bailable warrant amid security concerns.

Jammu: Farooq Abdullah, president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, attended an Iftar gathering in Jammu on Thursday evening shortly after a court withdrew a non-bailable warrant issued against him in connection with the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) case.

The event was hosted by a cabinet colleague of Omar Abdullah, where the veteran leader interacted with prominent citizens and party members. Observers present at the gathering said Abdullah appeared in good spirits while meeting attendees.

Earlier in the day, the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar had recalled the warrant that had been issued after rejecting an exemption plea filed on his behalf. Following the decision, his legal team submitted a fresh application outlining reasons for his absence from court proceedings.

The application cited a recent assassination attempt during a wedding reception in the Greater Kailash area of Jammu, which reportedly affected the senior leader’s health. According to the plea, Abdullah had experienced medical complications including fluctuating blood pressure and cardiac distress and had been placed under strict medical observation with restricted security protocols.

Doctors reportedly advised him against travel between Jammu and Srinagar due to health risks. The application also highlighted that the 88 year old leader is dealing with several age-related ailments and falls under a high-risk medical category.

Before the court hearing, Abdullah had addressed a press conference at his residence in Jammu and met party leaders and well-wishers who visited to check on his well being after the firing incident earlier in the week.

On Friday, the former chief minister returned to Srinagar and visited the Hazratbal Shrine to offer prayers on the occasion of Jumat-ul-Vida. Speaking to reporters there, he expressed concern over fuel shortages in India, linking the situation to the ongoing conflict in West Asia and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route.

Abdullah also appealed for unity among people, saying collective strength was essential for progress and stability.
