Farooq Abdullah says Karnataka poll results indicate rejection of religious division
14-05-2023 : National Conference President, Farooq Abdullah, stated that the recent results of the Karnataka assembly elections show that the people of India will not accept any attempts to divide them along religious lines. Abdullah believes that the people of India prioritize development and prosperity above all else. He made these remarks during a press conference in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, 32 kilometres away from Srinagar.
Abdullah praised the people of Karnataka for valuing all religions, citing the Congress party’s victory in the state as proof of love overcoming religious division. He went on to assert that if anyone tries to divide people on the basis of religion, they will be rejected. The people of India, Abdullah stated, are looking for a battle of development, not a war between religions.
Abdullah also stressed that people in India are looking for development and prosperity, as they want inflation to come down. He considers Karnataka’s election results to be a lesson for the entire country, demonstrating that the people want development and prosperity above all else.
Moving on to Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah expressed his hope that elections would be held in the union territory soon. He also expressed his desire that the Centre would restore the statehood, which was revoked when the government removed the special status of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Constitution on August 5, 2019, and divided it into two union territories.
Regarding the upcoming G20 meeting, Abdullah expressed his hope that it would boost tourism in the region. The third G20 Tourism Working Group Meeting is scheduled to take place at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) on the banks of the Dal lake in Srinagar from May 22 to 24. Overall, Abdullah’s remarks emphasize the importance of development and prosperity in the country, and the need for unity and respect for all religions.
