Farooq Abdullah Urges Kashmir to Recover as Tourism Struggles Since April 2025

NC President stresses restoring visitor confidence vital for valley’s economy

Srinagar, Sep 13: National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Sunday said Kashmir’s tourism industry has faced significant setbacks since the April 22 incident, but reviving the sector remains crucial for the valley’s economy.

“Tourism is the backbone of Kashmir’s economy, supporting both the poor and the affluent. Winters shut us down for six months, and all income is earned in the summer months. After April 22, we have worked hard to remove fear and restore confidence among visitors,” Dr. Farooq said.

He welcomed initiatives promoting normalcy, noting efforts such as the recent gold tournament as positive signals that conditions are improving. “These efforts send a clear message that Kashmir is safe, and we invite everyone to experience our hospitality,” he added.

On the long-standing demand for the restoration of statehood, Dr. Farooq expressed cautious optimism. “God willing, this will happen. Delhi will recognize the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir regarding their statehood,” he said.

Addressing ongoing regional disruptions, including controversies surrounding the Waqf Board and Doda incidents, Dr. Farooq observed that such challenges have been part of Kashmir’s history since 1947. “These things will continue to occur, but we must move forward. Nothing is static, and our leaders must pay attention to the aspirations of our people to ensure progress,” he said.
