Farooq Abdullah Urges Mehbooba Mufti to Prioritize Safeguarding J&K Over Political Blame Games

Mehbooba Should Prioritize J&K's Future, Not Point Fingers: Farooq Abdullah's Strong Message

Srinagar, 31-08-2024 : Former Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) leader Farooq Abdullah responded to comments made by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti, advising her to prioritize the protection and progress of Jammu and Kashmir. This exchange followed Mehbooba’s recent remarks criticizing the NC over its stance on the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) and the electoral system in the region. She had accused the NC of creating divisions within the community by labeling certain practices as “haram” (forbidden) and others as “halal” (permissible) during elections.

Farooq Abdullah, while speaking to reporters in Srinagar, expressed his concerns over Mehbooba’s approach, emphasizing the importance of unity and constructive efforts for the state’s future. He wished Mehbooba well, saying, “May Allah keep her safe,” and suggested that rather than engaging in blame games, she should focus on safeguarding Jammu and Kashmir and ensuring its progress.

In addition to his remarks on Mehbooba, Abdullah congratulated Jamaat-e-Islami for participating in the upcoming assembly elections. Despite the organization’s ban, several former members of JeI are running as independent candidates in various constituencies, including Pulwama, Kulgam, Devsar, and Zainapora.

Commenting on the recent decision by the Assam Assembly to end the break for Friday ‘namaaz,’ Abdullah expressed optimism that positive changes would eventually occur, highlighting India’s strength in its diversity. “Good things will come back again,” he remarked, reaffirming his belief in the nation’s unity amidst its diverse cultural landscape.
