Fire in Srinagar Damages Six Houses, Leaves Three Injured
Late night blaze triggers LPG explosions, disrupts firefighting efforts; probe underway to determine cause.
Srinagar, Feb 11 : A late night blaze tore through the densely populated Habbakadal area of Srinagar, damaging at least six residential houses and injuring three people, including a firefighter, officials said on Wednesday.
The Fire and Emergency Services control room received an alert at around 10:32 pm on Tuesday, prompting an immediate response from nearby fire stations. However, narrow lanes and tightly packed structures slowed the initial operation, leading authorities to deploy additional units from across the city.
The situation worsened after two to three LPG cylinders exploded, intensifying the flames and causing extensive damage, particularly to the attic portions of the affected homes.
A firefighter suffered a hand injury during the operation, while two civilians sustained minor wounds. All were treated at a local hospital and later discharged.
Deputy Director of Fire and Emergency Services Dr. Mir Aqib Hussain, who monitored the rescue efforts on site, said the exact cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation. Officials are also verifying the total number of structures impacted, though preliminary reports indicate significant damage to at least six houses.
