French Ambassador Honors 26/11 Victims, Reaffirms Strong Condemnation of Terrorism

On 17th anniversary of Mumbai attacks, France stands with India against terrorism

NEW DELHI, Nov 26: French Ambassador to India, Thierry Mathou, paid tribute to the victims on the 17th anniversary of the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai and reaffirmed France’s unequivocal condemnation of terrorism, pledging solidarity with India in combating the menace.

“Mumbai Attacks 26/11: As we mark 17 years since these horrific attacks, France honours the memory of the victims. France reaffirms its unequivocal condemnation of terrorism, and stands together with India in combating this scourge,” the Ambassador wrote on X.

The attacks, carried out on November 26, 2008, were orchestrated by ten terrorists from Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), who entered Mumbai via sea. Over the course of four days, the coordinated assaults left 166 people dead and 300 injured, targeting high-profile locations including the Taj and Oberoi Hotels, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Nariman House, Cama Hospital, Metro Cinema, and Leopold Cafe.

The events of 26/11 left deep scars on the city and its people. Bullet marks at Leopold Cafe and Nariman House, the bust of Assistant Sub-Inspector Tukaram Omble, who sacrificed his life capturing the surviving terrorist Mohammad Ajmal Amir Kasab, and the streets of South Mumbai continue to bear witness to the tragedy.

While nine of the terrorists were killed during the operation, Kasab was captured alive, sentenced to death in May 2010, and executed two years later in a maximum-security prison in Pune.

Through his tribute, Ambassador Mathou highlighted France’s continued commitment to fighting terrorism and standing in solidarity with India on this solemn day of remembrance.
