GATE 2027 Registration Delayed as IIT Madras Introduces DigiLocker Based Verification

Applicants will have key personal and identification details automatically fetched through DigiLocker once the registration window opens.

NEW DELHI, Aug 28: Registration for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 has been delayed, with IIT Madras stating that the application process will begin soon.

A major change in the upcoming registration process is the mandatory use of DigiLocker for applicants. The system is intended to simplify identity verification by allowing key candidate information to be fetched directly from verified records.

Details expected to be retrieved through the digital platform include the candidate’s name, date of birth, email address, mobile number, address, photograph and verified identification information.

The move is aimed at reducing manual data entry and helping minimise discrepancies in application forms. Candidates will nevertheless need to carefully check the information displayed during registration before submitting their applications.

GATE is conducted for admission to postgraduate programmes in engineering, technology and related disciplines, as well as for recruitment opportunities in certain public-sector organisations. The examination also serves as an important pathway for candidates seeking advanced technical education and research opportunities.

The delay in opening the application window means prospective candidates should monitor official announcements from IIT Madras for the revised registration schedule.

The introduction of DigiLocker-based verification marks another step towards greater digital integration in India’s competitive examination system. It follows a wider push by examination authorities to streamline application procedures and strengthen the accuracy of candidate records.

Students planning to appear for GATE 2027 are advised to keep their DigiLocker accounts updated and ensure that their identification details are accurate before registration begins.

The examination authority is expected to release further information on application dates, examination schedules, eligibility requirements and other instructions when the registration process officially opens.
