GATE 2027 Registration Schedule Revised, IIT Madras Introduces New Verification Measures

Registration for the national engineering entrance examination will now begin on August 27, with DigiLocker and live facial verification added to the application process.

NEW DELHI, Aug 14: The registration schedule for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 has been revised, with the application window now set to open on August 27 instead of August 14.

IIT Madras, which is organising GATE 2027, announced the revised timetable as candidates prepare for the examination scheduled for February 2027. The institute has also introduced additional identity verification measures, including DigiLocker authentication and live facial verification, as part of the application process.

The examination will continue to be conducted in multiple sessions across February. Candidates will be able to apply for one paper or, where permitted, two papers under the approved combinations.

The 2027 edition will also feature a new Robotics and Automation paper, expanding the examination’s academic coverage. The test is expected to offer 30 papers covering various engineering, technology and related disciplines.

The introduction of stronger digital verification is aimed at improving the authentication of applicants and making the registration process more secure. Candidates planning to appear for the examination are advised to keep their identity documents and DigiLocker details ready before applications open.

GATE scores are used for postgraduate admissions at several higher education institutions and are also considered by public-sector organisations for recruitment.

With the revised registration date approaching, aspirants are expected to closely monitor the official examination portal for the final application schedule, eligibility requirements, fee details and instructions.
