Gaurav Gupta Discusses Key Issues of Jambu Zoo with PCCF: A Boost for Jammu and Kashmir’s Tourism and Economy
Jambu Zoo Opens to Public: Gaurav Gupta Highlights Pending Development and Wildlife Species Addition
09-06-2023: Gaurav Gupta, former Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) General Secretary called on the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), Suresh Gupta, IFS, and discussed at length the significant issues related to Jambu Zoo that has been recently thrown open to public after its inauguration by the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha.
Welcoming the announcement of free entry to the public for a month by the LG after its inauguration he said, the zoo will definitely prove to be a big booster to the Tourism and Economy of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
During the meeting, Gaurav Gupta while lauding the concerned departments for making a part of the Zoo fit for visits by the public including tourists urged the PCCF to pace up the work on the pending part of the Zoo and ensure bringing varied species of wildlife to this prestigious Zoo in Jammu province. He also raised many other related issues before the PCCF Suresh Gupta.
After giving a keen yet patient hearing to the issues highlighted by Gaurav Gupta the PCCF informed him that out of the 163-hectare area comprising the zoo project only 70 hectares stands developed and the rest will be developed very soon, especially in view of the approval for the same having been given green signal only last month.
The top official informed that the project is not only a Zoo but nature park that is going to be soon a viewpoint cum zoo besides a scenic picnic spot in the Jammu region. He said that the Zoo involves a total loop of 2.7 km thus providing ample space for the visitors to enjoy their trip.
Regarding the multiple variety of wild animals being brought to the zoo, PCCF Suresh Gupta said that it is just the beginning and very soon the zoo will be full of wildlife after animals are brought from different states to this destination with the improvement in weather conditions that would suit these animals. Elaborating further he informed that the animals set to be brought to this new habitat include Garial from Lucknow, Crocodile from Haryana, Tiger from Chennai, Loin from Gujarat, and Sloth Bear from Karnataka. He added that these could not be transported due to the hot summer.
Further, the PCCF informed that Manda will now be a rescue centre besides being a Trek for the trekkers with ‘Jambu di Takki’ has also developed inside the Zoo.
Meanwhile, Gaurav also stress upon the PCCF for increasing the number of battery cars/ e-rickshaw, reduce fares of battery cars, installation of more water points and sitting sheds for the welfare of the public to which the officer assured to do everything possible to make the zoo a comfortable destination for the visitors.
He also lauded the PCCF for showing serious concern toward the issues and hoped that the Jambu Zoo will be developed in the shortest possible time and will boost the economy of the Union Territory in the near future.
