Jammu, May 18: Government College of Education, Jammu organized a series of events to mark the G-20 summit. The events were based on the theme, “One Earth, One family, One Future” Sh. Rajinder Sharma, Mayor, Jammu was the Chief Guest of the program while Deputy Mayor Sh. Baldev Singh Billawaria was the Guest of honor on the occasion.
In the beginning, Mayor Jammu unveiled the Heritage Wall created by students of the college. The students created a wall depicting pictures of cultural practices in Dogra Culture for protecting the environment. The students apprised the guests about the regional cultural practices that were pro-planet in nature. The unveiling of the Heritage Wall was followed by a Symposium on the topic, “Why should plastic be banned? ”The speakers raised issues on how plastic is a threat to the planet Earth and what the viable solutions are for safeguarding the natural ecosystem. The students also laid emphasis on an immediate ban on plastics as it has damaged the rivers, oceans, and mountains beyond repair.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Aekta Gupta, Principal of the College congratulated the students for suggesting means of sustainable cultural practices for saving the environment. She added that the ancient Indian way of life was pro-planet in nature. Later in the program, the newly constructed, Girls Common Room was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Mayor. The college has constructed the room so that the students can spend leisure time by making it productive with the availability of proper comfortable space and a beautiful environment created by beautifying the walls with positive and enthusiastic quotes and paintings. In the valedictory session, the investiture ceremony of newly elected College Presidium was held. The Hon’ble guests and the faculty decorated the elected college students with Sash and batches for different posts.
About 50 students participated in the event. The program was convened by Dr. Shubhra Jamwal(NSS PO), The faculty members who contributed towards the programme were: Prof. Shalini Rana(IQAC), Prof. Shapia Shameem, Prof. Seema Kumari, Prof. Sarita Dogra, Prof. Neera Verma, Prof Seema Kotwal,Dr. Rajinder Kaur, Dr. Sushma Bala, DSW Prof.Anju Bala, Prof Satish Kumar, Prof. Shalini Sharma, dr Anradha Chaoudhary, Dr Anuradha Seth, Ms. Neha, Ms. Arushi, Ms. Anjali organized and anchored the programme successfully.
