GDC Doda Suicide Case: Inquiry Committee Formed, Assistant Professor Suspended
Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department orders probe into Ms Saba Banoo’s death Prof Manzoor Ahmad placed under suspension
J&k, Jan 21 : The Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department has ordered a formal inquiry into the alleged suicide of a student at Government Degree College (GDC) Doda, while suspending a faculty member pending the investigation.
According to an official order, a three member inquiry committee has been constituted to examine the circumstances surrounding the reported suicide of Ms Saba Banoo on January 16, 2026. The panel, which includes Dr Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Director of Colleges, Sanjay Kumar Tickoo, Deputy Secretary, and Syed Ishrat Parvez, Under Secretary, has been directed to submit its findings within seven days.
In a separate order, Prof Manzoor Ahmad, Assistant Professor of Commerce at GDC Doda, has been placed under suspension with immediate effect. Pending the outcome of the inquiry, he will remain attached to the office of the Director Colleges, Jammu and Kashmir.
Copies of both orders have been forwarded to the Director Colleges, the Principal of GDC Doda, and other relevant authorities for compliance.
The incident has raised serious concern within academic and administrative circles, prompting the Higher Education Department to take swift action to ascertain facts and determine accountability, if any, once the inquiry concludes.
