Geeta Bukkal questions BJP for non-implementation of women reservation despite enactment of law in 2023
Why no reservation to women, despite unanimous legislation in 2023 Geeta Bukkal questinns BJP
- Implement 2023 women quota law, without delay Bukkal to Modi Govt.
- Bukkal leads Mahila Congress Protest for women reservation
Jammu, April 21: AICC leader and former Minister and MLA Smt. Geeta Bukkal today lashed out at the Modi Govt. for its attempts to befool the people especially women folk over the issue of reservation, whereas the Women Reservation Legislation was unanimously passed in 2023 but not implemented by the Modi Govt, so far, despite demand by Congress and other opposition and demanded its immediate implementation.
Addressing a press conference at PCC HQ here today, as a representative of AICC, Senior Congress Leader from Haryana and sitting MLA Geeta Bukkal exposed the dual standards of Modi Govt. and the BJP over the women’s reservation issue. She questioned why the Modi Govt did not implement women reservation in 2024 Lok Sabha elections and allowed 1/3 seats to women from existing Lok Sabha Strength of 543, when the law granting 1/3 reservation to women was already passed in 2023 in the Parliament unanimously and Congress and other opposition had demanded its implementation without delay.
Accompanied by Working President PCC Raman Bhalla, Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, and Women leaders Smt. Kanta Bhan, Namrata Sharma (Spokesperson), Zahida Khan, Inderjeet Kour, Prveen Akhtar Vice Presidents Pradesh Mahila Congress, Vimla Slathia, Vandana Sharma and others, Geeta Bukhal termed the move of Modi Govt. to bring in 131st Constitutional amendment, as a ploy to create confusion and befool women population, as Modi Govt. was already aware that it lacks 2/3rd majority to pass the constitutional amendment. Modi ji wanted to play victim card and shed crocodile tears, after the fall of the bill, which is clear now, in order to influence the women voters n the poll bound states in violation of MCC. However it termed out to be reverse and the Govt faced a moral & political defeat besides getting exposed that why the 131st amendment was styled after women reservation, when the same had been passed unanimously in the shape of 128th amendment.
It was a failed attempt to cheat and befool but the Modi Govt fell in its own trap and got exposed. She challenged Modi Govt. to implement the existing women reservation law of 2023, for which gazette notification was issued on 16th April 2026, from existing 543 Lok Sabha seats and extended full support of Congress party. Stop befooling and exploiting the women folk in the country by your false protests and dramas but come clear to implement women quota, without delay, she asserted.
She said that congress party has always championed the women empowerment and created examples like the first woman Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi, first woman President; first woman speaker etc. Besides giving 1/3rd reservations to women in PRIs trough 73rd & 74th amendment in the country.
Congress passed the women quota bill in Rajya Sabha in 2010 but did not get adequate support to pass in LokSabha. Smt Sonia Gandhi, Shri Rahul Gandhi and LoP in Rajya Sabha Shri Malikarjun Kharge wrote to Prime Minister from time to time to demonstrate our commitment for women reservation but it is Modi Govt which is playing hide & seek over the issue. Congress is committed and ready every time for implementing and enforcing women reservation but Modi Govt and BJP is not sincere over the issue of giving reservation to women.
Taking a dig at Modi Govt, she also questioned the selection of Hadeep Puri as a nominee of Centre Govt. and BJP to speak on the issue of women quota in Jammu. The person who should have faced the consequences for his name figuring in the Epsetien files, represents women cause in the holy city of temples in Jammu, which is shameful and reflects great sense of in sensitivity of BJP towards women respect.
She said that congress shall fight for women reservation and force Modi Govt to ensure implementation of 1/3rd reservation for women I Lok Sabha and State/UT assemblies and asked women to come forward to get their rights.
Later she led a strong protest of Mahila Congress activists at Shaheedi Chowk Jammu, denouncing Modi Govt for denying reservation to women in legislatures despite unanimous legislation in 2023 and demanding 1/3rd reservation to women in legislatures without delay. The protesters raised anti BJP, anti-centre Govt. slogans and carried play cards in favour of women quota.
Bukkal flayed Centre Govt. and BJP for playing with the sentiments and rights of women of the country. BJP is not sincere to the cause of women and playing hide and seek over the women quota. She demanded immediate implementation of 1/3rd reservation law, without any delay.
