Ghulam Nabi Azad Advocates Local Inclusion in Intelligence Gathering Amidst Rajouri Encounter Fallout
Jammu, 24-12-2023 : In the aftermath of the tragic Rajouri encounter that resulted in the deaths of three civilians, Ghulam Nabi Azad, President of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), has advocated for the inclusion of local residents in intelligence-gathering efforts. Expressing the need for heightened security measures, Azad emphasized the importance of active local participation in gathering information in areas prone to attacks. Simultaneously, the Indian Army is conducting an inquiry into the civilian deaths resulting from a terrorist attack in the Poonch-Rajouri sector on December 21, leading to the demise of four soldiers. Security forces have been deployed for search operations in the Bafliaz area of Poonch district, particularly in the forest area of Dera ki Gali in the Rajouri sector. The Indian Army, through social media, communicated its commitment to fully support and cooperate with the ongoing investigations.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration responded to the incident by announcing compensation and job opportunities for the families of the three deceased civilians found near the anti-terrorist operation site in Poonch district. The announcement followed the killing of four Army personnel and the injury of three others in the Dera ki Gali forest area of Rajouri, where heavily armed terrorists ambushed two Army vehicles. Concerns have been raised about Pakistan’s attempt to revive terrorism in the Rajouri-Poonch sector, with an estimated 25-30 Pakistani terrorists suspected to be hiding in the region’s forest areas, according to defense sources.
JK National Conference MP Farooq Abdullah reacted to the situation, questioning the nature of the conflict and expressing concern over the detention of locals by police personnel. He emphasized the need to address people’s sentiments and called for Home Minister Amit Shah to visit Surankote, appealing for a transparent investigation into the serious situation and potential human rights violations.
