Ghulam Nabi Azad To Contest Lok Sabha Polls From Anantnag-Rajouri Constituency

DPAP's Political Maneuver: Ghulam Nabi Azad Steps into Lok Sabha Fray from Anantnag-Rajouri, Marking a Defining Moment in Regional Politics

Srinagar, 02-04-2024: Ghulam Nabi Azad, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, is set to enter the electoral fray once again, this time contesting the Lok Sabha elections from the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency. This decision was announced by his newly formed political party, the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP).

Azad’s decision to contest from Anantnag-Rajouri marks a significant move in his political career, particularly after his departure from the Congress party in 2022, thereby ending a longstanding association of five decades. This election holds special significance for Azad as it marks his return to the Lok Sabha fray after his defeat in the 2014 elections from the Udhampur constituency, where he lost to BJP leader Jitendra Singh.

Speculation had arisen regarding a possible alliance between Azad’s DPAP and Altaf Bukhari’s Apni Party. However, Mohiuddin, a spokesperson for DPAP, stated that no substantial progress has been made in this regard. He further emphasized that due to time constraints and a lack of significant advancements in discussions, both parties have decided to pursue their respective electoral strategies independently. Additionally, Mohiuddin mentioned that the Apni Party had shown little interest in contesting from the Anantnag seat.
