Glen Powell recalls terrifying on set moment as fire extinguisher exploded in his face on ‘The Running Man’
Actor shares behind the scenes thrills and unexpected stunts at New York Comic Con
Hollywood, Oct 19 : Action star Glen Powell opened up about a terrifying on-set incident while filming ‘The Running Man’, a remake of the 1987 cult classic. Speaking at New York Comic Con, Powell revealed that some stunts left him genuinely shaken, including an unexpected fire extinguisher explosion that caught him off guard.
“There were a few explosions that hit me in the face,” Powell said, laughing. “And a fire extinguisher that exploded before time, that definitely took me by surprise.”
Recounting another intense moment, Powell described a scene where he falls down the side of a building.
“They let a cable loose a little before I thought it was going to be let loose. If you fall even a few feet when you’re not expecting it, it’s a little nerve racking. Those are the moments you can’t fake,” he added with a grin.
The upcoming film features an ensemble cast including Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, Jayme Lawson, Lee Pace, Katy O’Brian, William H. Macy, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, and Michael Cera. Director Edgar Wright, known for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Baby Driver, co-wrote the script with Michael Bacall, reuniting the duo after over a decade.
The original ‘The Running Man’ (1987) starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and was adapted from a Stephen King story (under the pseudonym Richard Bachman). The film became a cult classic for its mix of action, satire, and commentary on reality television, long before the genre became mainstream.
Fans can expect a high octane remake with authentic stunts and real reactions, as Powell’s experiences highlight the physical risks taken to bring the story to life.
