Grand Celebration of Maharaja Hari Singh’s Birth Anniversary by Dogra Group of Colleges and Dogra Sadar Sabha
On September 22, 2023 : In the college’s auditorium, the Dogra Group of Colleges in collaboration with Dogra Sadar Sabha celebrated the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh with grandeur. The session began with the lighting of the customary lamp, which was followed by the floral tribute to Maharaja Hari Singh Ji. The distinguished guest was warmly welcomed by Ms. Arushi Sharma, a DCE student, and this was followed by the presentation of a sapling to the honourable guests.
On this momentous occasion, Major General (Retd.) G.S. Jamwal, AVSM was the chief guest and key resource person. Dr. Samar Dev Singh Charak, Secretary Dogra Educational Trust, Dr. Avdhesh Partap, Principal DLC, Dr. Bela Thakur, Principal DDC, Dr. Vikesh Kumar Sharma, Principal DCE were also present on the occasion.
A beautiful Dogri song was sung by Mr. Ravinder Kumar, Faculty, DDC to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh, and this was accompanied by paper presentations, powerpoint presentations, poem recitations, and cultural displays by the students of the Dogra group of colleges.
Major General (Retd.) Govardhan Singh Jamwal, AVSM , from the Maharaja Hari Singh’s State Forces, Commissioned by him in 1947 was the first ,the last and the only General of the Indian Army from the State Forces. Before retiring in 1984, he took part in many Wars including 1947 -48 Jammu and Kashmir war and 1965 war in khemkaran Punjab and served as a Military Secretary to the President of India. In his address he highlighted the contribution of Maharaja Hari Singh ji in socio-political and religious reforms in the erstwhile state during his rule. He also threw light on Maharaja Hari Singh’s contribution towards education describing him as the great visionary ruler of the state. He further illustrated his other achievements that he made primary education compulsory in the state, introduced laws prohibiting child marriage, and opened places of worship to low caste subjects. In 1930, Hari Singh attended the First Round Table Conference in London.
The stage was conducted by Ms. Dhanayeta & Mr. Anuttam for Dogra Law College. The vote of thanks was rendered by Ms. Daksha Koushal, Secretary Student council DDC, and the programme ended with the National Anthem.
