Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Prakash Purab Resounds with Spiritual Splendor in Jammu
Celebrating the Birth of Khalsa Panth: Enthusiastic Observance of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji's Gurpurab
Jammu,05-01-2024 : The Prakash Purab, commemorating the birthday of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj, the revered 10th Guru of the Sikhs and the founder of Khalsa Panth, resonated with profound religious fervor and devotion throughout the region. The central celebration took place at Gurdwara Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji in Chand Nagar (Lower Gumat), Jammu, attracting a diverse gathering of devotees from different backgrounds and areas. The entire Gurdwara was adorned in splendor, reflecting the joyous occasion.
From the early hours, devotees streamed into the Gurdwara to partake in special prayers and seek the blessings of the Great Guru. The Management and Celebrations Committee had meticulously decorated the Gurdwara to mark the Gurpurab. Local Ragi Jathas, including Bhai Rattan Singh and Bhai Karan Singh, Hazuri Ragis of Gurdwara Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, and Parcharak Bhai Surjit Singh, along with renowned Ragis and Parcharaks from outside Jammu and Kashmir, infused the atmosphere with devotion through Shabad-Kirtans, emphasizing life’s higher values and communal harmony.
The event featured prominent Ragi Jathas, such as Bhai Jaskaran Singh of Patiala, Bhai Sukhjit Singh Hazuri Ragi Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar, and the renowned Sikh preacher S Sarabjit Singh Dhunda from Gurmat Gian Missionary College, Ludhiana. They recited ‘Shabad-Kirtan’ and Gurvani, illustrating how Guru Gobind Singh Ji made profound sacrifices for society.
Balvinder Singh, the vice president of DGPC Jammu, brought attention to significant Sikh issues, including political reservation for the community, the exclusion of Sikh youths from the Valley from SRO-425, the non-inclusion of a Sikh member in JKPSC, and the exclusion of Punjabi language from JKUT official Bill 2020. He emphasized the need for collaborative decision-making that respects elected representatives and addresses Sikh community concerns.
DGPC, true to its commitment, honored Sikh students excelling in various fields, presenting mementos to those who achieved academic excellence. This year, DGPC also recognized Sikh students excelling in sports and education, acknowledging their achievements acclaimed by the Government of India or other international organizations.
Ranjit Singh Tohra, the president of DGPC Jammu, illuminated Sri Guru Gobind Singh’s life history and the unparalleled sacrifices made by the great Guru. He expressed gratitude to the civil and police administration, PDD, PHE, JMC, CMO Jammu, Fire Services department, doctors who arranged a free medical camp, and Sewadars who prepared Langar and offered other services.
Surjit Singh, the general secretary, emphasized that the event not only honored the spiritual legacy of Guru Gobind Singh Ji but also addressed contemporary Sikh concerns, fostering unity and devotion among the participants. He expressed gratitude to the Sangat and Sewadars for their contributions, highlighting the collaborative efforts that made the celebration a success.
In addition to DGPC members, various dignitaries, including Ranvir Singh, Jt Secretary, Harjit Singh, Jagpal Singh cashier, Tejinder Singh, Avtar Singh, Balvinder Singh, Charanjit Singh Khalsa (Ex MLC), Varinder Singh Sonu, spokesperson PDP, Surinder Singh Shingari, Sunil Dimple, and Kalbhushan Khajuria Joint Commissioner JMC, were present at the occasion.
