Hamas to Consider US Ceasefire Proposal as Arab and Muslim Nations Back Plan

Palestinian group to study plan presented by Qatari and Egyptian mediators; regional leaders back US initiative

Doha, Sep 30: Hamas has received a US-backed proposal to end the Gaza conflict, delivered by Qatari and Egyptian mediators, a Hamas source said. The plan, approved earlier by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was presented to Hamas negotiators during a meeting in Doha.

The Hamas delegation stated it would examine the proposal “with sincere intent” before issuing an official response, according to the source. Egypt confirmed the delivery of the plan, noting that amendments were made by Arab countries prior to its presentation.

The US proposal stipulates the release of all remaining hostages within 72 hours if Hamas accepts the terms. President Donald Trump announced Netanyahu’s backing of the plan and urged Hamas to comply. Netanyahu, however, warned that Israel would “finish the job” against Hamas should the militants reject the proposal.

The plan faced immediate opposition from Islamic Jihad, a Palestinian militant group allied with Hamas, which dismissed it as a “recipe for continued aggression” and accused Israel and the US of attempting to impose outcomes not achieved through war.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority welcomed the initiative, expressing readiness to collaborate with the US and regional partners to end the Gaza war. The PA stressed that the plan should guarantee humanitarian aid, hostage release, and mechanisms to protect Palestinian civilians.

Foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Qatar, and Egypt issued a joint statement supporting the US proposal. They praised its focus on ending hostilities, rebuilding Gaza, preventing Palestinian displacement, and blocking West Bank annexation, reaffirming their commitment to work toward a comprehensive two state solution.
