Hardik Pandya Rewards Wankhede Groundsmen, Fulfils T20 World Cup Promise

India all-rounder rewards stadium staff for their support during late night training sessions

MUMBAI: India’s star all rounder Hardik Pandya once again proved that his influence extends far beyond the cricket field, making a heartfelt gesture for the groundsmen at Wankhede Stadium. The T20 World Cup-winning cricketer fulfilled a promise he had made months earlier by honouring the staff with gifts and financial assistance.

In the lead up to the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, Hardik had spent long hours training at the iconic venue, with sessions often stretching late into the night. During this period, the groundsmen ensured uninterrupted practice conditions and full support  a contribution Hardik had openly acknowledged and vowed to repay.

On Thursday, he lived up to that commitment by felicitating the Wankhede ground staff, presenting them with gifts and monetary rewards as a mark of appreciation for their dedication.

The efforts of both the player and the support staff bore fruit as India successfully defended their T20 World Cup title, registering a dominant 96-run victory over New Zealand in the final held in Ahmedabad. Hardik played a crucial role throughout the tournament, delivering impactful performances with both bat and ball.

The triumph marked his second T20 World Cup title, having also been part of the victorious 2024 squad. However, it was this off-field act of gratitude that drew widespread admiration, highlighting his respect for those who contribute behind the scenes.

Hardik’s gesture reflects a consistent pattern of generosity. Over the years, he has extended support not only to teammates but also to fans and aspiring cricketers, often in quiet yet meaningful ways.

His teammate Jitesh Sharma recently shared how Hardik reached out to him during a challenging phase after missing out on World Cup selection, offering encouragement and guidance. Jitesh also praised Hardik’s generous nature, noting how he frequently donates cricket gear to young players without hesitation.

For Hardik, the moment at Wankhede was more than just a symbolic gesture   it was about keeping a promise to those who stood by him during crucial preparation phases, reinforcing his image as a player who values every contribution to the game.
