Hazardous Chinese Nylon Thread Seized in R.S Pura; Shopkeeper Booked for Violating Ban

JAMMU, July 27: In a firm action against the illegal sale of dangerous materials, Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a case against a shopkeeper in R.S Pura for allegedly stocking and selling the banned Chinese nylon thread, commonly known as Gattu or Chinese manja.

Acting on specific inputs, a police team from Police Station R.S Pura, led by PSI Abid Bashir, conducted a surprise raid at a shop located in the local marketplace. During the operation, the team recovered nine rolls of the prohibited synthetic thread, which has been banned due to its hazardous nature and repeated links to serious injuries and fatalities across the region.

The accused has been identified as Raman Kumar, a resident of Ward No. 6, R.S Pura. According to police officials, he was found in illegal possession of the nylon-based thread, which has been explicitly prohibited under district administration orders to ensure public safety, particularly during festive seasons when the use of sharp kite strings surges.

“The seized thread poses a grave threat to both humans and animals, and has been a cause of numerous accidents in the past. Despite strict instructions and public advisories, the sale and purchase of such material continue to surface. Action under relevant legal provisions has been initiated,” said the police spokesperson.

An FIR has been registered against the accused under applicable sections of the law, and further investigation is currently underway to trace the source of the banned material and identify any possible supply chain involved.

Police have once again appealed to the general public and shopkeepers to refrain from selling or using the banned synthetic threads. Strict legal action will be taken against violators in accordance with the law. The operation reflects the administration’s commitment to curbing the circulation of life-threatening materials and safeguarding the community.
