Heatwave Conditions to Persist Until June 10, Rain and Thunderstorms Expected Thereafter
Weather likely to turn unstable from June 11 with thunderstorms, hailstorms, strong winds and heavy showers expected across several parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Srinagar, Jun 7: The Meteorological Department has predicted a continuation of warm and dry weather across Jammu and Kashmir over the next few days, while cautioning that a significant change in weather conditions is expected from June 11 onward.
According to officials at the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar, most areas of the Union Territory are likely to experience clear to partly cloudy skies until June 10. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain above normal, contributing to uncomfortable conditions in several districts. However, isolated pockets may witness brief afternoon showers during this period.
The weather pattern is expected to shift from June 11, bringing increased cloud cover and a higher probability of rainfall activity. Forecast models indicate that scattered to widespread areas could receive light to moderate precipitation accompanied by thunder, lightning and short-duration intense showers.
Meteorologists have also warned that strong winds may accompany these weather systems, with gusts potentially reaching 50 to 60 kilometres per hour in some locations. Hailstorm activity cannot be ruled out, particularly in vulnerable areas during the transition period.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious as localized heavy rainfall may trigger flash floods in low-lying regions, besides increasing the risk of mudslides and temporary waterlogging in susceptible areas of both Kashmir and Jammu divisions.
The advisory is particularly important for farmers, transport operators and those planning travel in hilly terrain. Officials have urged the public to stay informed through regular weather bulletins and follow instructions issued by local administrations whenever necessary.
The department stated that close monitoring of weather developments will continue and updated forecasts will be issued as conditions evolve in the coming days.
