Heavy Rains Cause Havoc in Jammu Region: Woman Drowns, Mud House Collapses Injuring Three

Mendhar/Jammu, Jul 6: A woman drowned and three people were injured in separate incidents as heavy rains lashed parts of Jammu overnight, officials said on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Rozi Kouser, 30, whose body was recovered from a stream in Keri Kangra in the Gursai area of the Mendhar sub-division in Poonch district on Friday night. Officials stated that while the exact cause of her death was not immediately known, the area had experienced heavy rains, and it is suspected that Kouser might have slipped into the fast-flowing stream.

In another incident, three individuals sustained injuries when their mud house collapsed due to heavy rains in the village of Hansu in the Kotliwala area of Udhampur district. The region saw significant rainfall overnight, with Jammu city recording the highest amount at 69.4 mm, followed by 57.4 mm in Udhampur district. Katra, the base camp for pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, recorded 50.1 mm, while Kathua district received 53.6 mm of rainfall.

The maximum temperature in Jammu was recorded at 30.9 degrees Celsius, which is 4.5 degrees below the normal for this season. The minimum temperature was also significantly lower, at 21.6 degrees Celsius, 4.2 notches below normal. Authorities have issued an advisory for the Jammu region, urging people to avoid water bodies due to the forecast of continued wet weather by the Met Department until July 10.
