“Himanta Biswa Sarma Accused of Using Police Pressure Instead of Answering Allegations on Wife: Pawan Khera”

Congress leader seeks legal relief while questioning alleged foreign links and multiple passports

April 9, India — Congress leader Pawan Khera has accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of using the state police to intimidate him instead of responding to serious questions raised about his wife’s alleged foreign business interests and multiple passports.

Khera also criticised the Chief Minister for allegedly using inappropriate language against Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, stating that such remarks do not reflect Assam’s rich cultural values.

Amid escalating tensions, Khera has approached the Telangana High Court seeking anticipatory bail in connection with a case filed by the Assam Government. His plea, submitted on April 7, is scheduled for hearing on April 9. He cited his Hyderabad residence and requested protection from arrest.

In a video message shared from an undisclosed location, Khera defended his stance, asserting that the Opposition had merely sought answers. He claimed that instead of clarifying the issues, the Chief Minister responded with personal attacks and legal action.

Reiterating his allegations, Khera pointed to a company reportedly registered in Wyoming, USA, in the name of Sarma’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma. He alleged that the firm lists international addresses, including London, Dubai, and Dhaka, and raised questions over the nationality details mentioned in company records.

The controversy continues to intensify as political and legal developments unfold, with both sides maintaining firm positions.
