Huma Qureshi Addresses Engagement Rumours, Says She Aims to Be a ‘Queen’ Who Empowers Young Girls

The actress returns as Rani Bharti in Maharani Season 4, reflects on her growth, dreams, and the powerful lessons her iconic role taught her.

Mumbai, Nov 4 : Actress Huma Qureshi is back in her acclaimed role as Rani Bharti in the much-awaited fourth season of the political drama Maharani. In an exclusive interview with Amar Ujala, Huma reflected on her journey with the series, the evolution of her character, and the personal impact of portraying such a powerful woman. She also addressed the ongoing engagement rumours with characteristic grace and humour.

“Maharani 4 is a rebirth for Rani Bharti”

Recalling her first day on set, Huma said, “I remember it very well. My first scene was simple  I was sitting on the floor chopping vegetables. The entire team was nervous about how to introduce Rani Bharti in a way that connects with the audience. Looking back, it feels surreal that we’ve reached the fourth season.”

Talking about the new season, she revealed, “The story moves forward nearly twenty years. The characters have evolved, and there are new faces. You could call it a rebirth for Maharani. Rani Bharti gets to live in a new era, and I’m confident this will be our best season yet.”

“Rani Bharti made me fearless”

Huma shared how deeply the character influenced her personally. “Rani isn’t afraid to speak the truth. Playing her taught me that if you’re not wrong, there’s no reason to be afraid. I’ve learned to voice my opinions more openly, both at work and in life.”

One of her most memorable scenes this season was a silent confrontation with Kala Naag. “It was emotionally charged, with minimal dialogue. Everything was conveyed through expression   that silence carried the depth of their relationship.”

“Maharani isn’t over yet”

When asked if Maharani 4 marks the end of the series, Huma smiled, “The story isn’t over yet. Every time people think it’s done, something new emerges. As they say, ‘Picture abhi baaki hai, mere dost.’”

“I still see myself as a student”

Reflecting on her career, Huma said, “I’m proud of what I’ve achieved, but I’m never satisfied. I still have so many dreams to chase. Maharani changed everything for me  it gave me recognition and stronger roles.”

“I’d love to do comedy and work with Nolan”

Surprisingly, the actress revealed her desire to explore comedy next. “I have great comic timing! I love romantic comedies like Bridesmaids and Hera Pheri. I enjoy films with heart, humour, and mischief.” She also expressed her admiration for Christopher Nolan, saying, “His films combine emotion and science so beautifully. Working with him would be an honour.”

On engagement rumours

Addressing ongoing rumours about her engagement, Huma laughed, “All I’ll say is  when the time is right, I’ll make the announcement myself.”

As Maharani Season 4 premieres soon, Huma Qureshi’s honesty, humility, and strength continue to make her one of the most inspiring voices in Indian entertainment.
