IGP Kashmir V K Birdi Unveils Robust Strategy: Stringent Measures Against Anti-National Social Media Narratives
09-12-2023 : Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Kashmir Zone, VK Birdi, asserted on Saturday that the police would adopt stringent measures to counteract those spreading anti-national and terrorist narratives on social media, with a firm commitment to maintaining peace and order. Following a security review meeting in Bandipora aimed at evaluating and enhancing security measures, IGP Birdi emphasized the importance of professional readiness, encompassing anti-terror operations and crime prevention, during visits to every district.
Addressing the media, IGP Birdi highlighted recent orders issued by district magistrates concerning the misuse of social media. He warned that individuals, whether intentionally or unintentionally, promoting anti-national or terrorist narratives and disturbing peace on social media platforms would face rigorous police action. Urging parents to counsel their children against such misuse, he emphasized the authorities’ determination to take tough measures to preserve peace in the valley and quell societal rumors.
The security meeting, attended by DIG NKR Baramulla Vivek Gupta, SSP Bandipora Lakshay Sharma, Addl. SP Bandipora Sandeep Bhat, and other district officers, focused on strengthening collaboration between law enforcement agencies for seamless information sharing and joint operations. IGP Birdi stressed the exploration of innovative technologies to enhance security infrastructure and response capabilities.
Emphasizing the importance of human intelligence and technical inputs to eliminate inimical elements, Birdi urged officers to take stringent action against individuals or organizations supporting anti-national activities. He called for vigilance in identifying those with nefarious designs aiming to disturb the atmosphere of peace and tranquility.
Addressing the drug menace, IGP Birdi underscored law enforcement agencies’ commitment to intensifying operations and employing advanced techniques to dismantle drug networks. He directed the finalization of pending cases and public complaints to provide relief to the general public, urging the speedy disposal of assigned investigations.
