IIT Bombay Placement Season Opens with 98 Offers; Da Vinci Secures Highest Package
Over 42 companies visit on Day 1; AI and ML roles dominate demand as campus gears up for a busier Day 2
Mumbai, Dec 02 : The placement season at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay began on December 1 with a strong start, as 42 companies participated on Day 1 and rolled out 98 job offers. According to students, Da Vinci offered the highest package, approximately £125,000 per year (around ₹1.48 crore).
Students reported that nearly 70 interim selections were displayed on the first day. Major recruiters such as GE, Airbus, and Barclays conducted walk-in processes in addition to scheduled interviews. While the placement drive is underway, IIT Bombay has not yet released official figures.
Day 2 is expected to be even more hectic, with over 35 national and international companies scheduled to visit the campus. Students said Tesla, the global EV giant led by Elon Musk, is among the most anticipated recruiters.
Sources at IIT Bombay noted that companies this year are especially interested in candidates skilled in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). Developer roles remain more in demand compared to user-interface positions.
Top recruiters on Day 1 included Flipkart, J.P. Morgan, Barclays, and Qualcomm, who participated in interviews and selection processes. According to IIT Bombay’s placement brochure, more than 2,300 students across programmes are eligible for placements this year, with the electrical engineering department having the highest number of candidates.
For the first time, internships have been integrated into the placement season, a move that students say has attracted more companies and increased participation from across departments.
