IMD Predicts Early Southwest Monsoon Arrival Over Kerala

Weather experts forecast favourable rainfall conditions for agriculture and reservoir levels.

India, May 17 : The India Meteorological Department announced that the southwest monsoon is expected to reach Kerala earlier than usual this year, bringing optimism for farmers and water resource planners across the country.

Meteorologists stated that climatic conditions over the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea remain favourable for an early onset around May 26. If the prediction materialises, it would mark one of the earliest monsoon arrivals in recent years.

Agricultural experts believe timely rainfall could support kharif crop sowing, especially in states dependent on monsoon irrigation. The government has also begun preparing contingency plans to manage potential flooding in coastal regions.

Several states have already initiated reservoir management reviews to ensure effective water conservation during the rainy season. Economists noted that a healthy monsoon could positively impact food inflation and rural consumption.
