IMD Predicts Heavy Rain, Hailstorms Across 12 States Over Next Few Hours
Strong winds, lightning and widespread showers expected as monsoon activity intensifies; authorities urge caution in vulnerable areas.
New Delhi, June 22 : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for several parts of the country, forecasting rain, thunderstorms, lightning and isolated hailstorm activity over the next few hours. The alert comes as monsoon conditions strengthen across different regions, bringing the possibility of sudden weather changes and localised disruptions.
According to meteorologists, wind speeds may reach up to 70 kmph in some locations, increasing the likelihood of tree falls, traffic disruptions and power outages. Residents have been advised to avoid open areas during thunderstorms and follow local advisories.
Weather System Active Across Several Regions
The latest forecast indicates unsettled conditions in parts of northern, central and eastern India. Areas expected to witness rainfall and thunderstorm activity include Bihar, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Jharkhand, Telangana, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and the Delhi-NCR region.
Weather experts say intermittent showers accompanied by lightning and gusty winds could develop rapidly, particularly during afternoon and evening hours.
National Capital May Get Relief from Heat
After days of warm and humid conditions, Delhi and adjoining areas are likely to receive rainfall accompanied by thundercloud activity. The expected precipitation may bring temporary respite from rising temperatures and improve outdoor conditions.
Heat Stress Continues in Eastern Plains
Large parts of Bihar continue to experience high daytime temperatures despite forecasts of changing weather patterns. While significant temperature fluctuations are not expected immediately, a gradual decline later this week could ease heat-related discomfort.
Rain-Bearing Clouds Gather Over Rajasthan
Several districts in Rajasthan are likely to experience scattered showers along with thunderstorm activity. Lightning strikes and strong winds remain possible in isolated pockets, prompting authorities to advise caution during outdoor travel.
Monsoon Set to Advance Further in Maharashtra
Conditions are becoming increasingly favourable for the southwest monsoon to progress deeper into Maharashtra. Rainfall activity is expected to intensify in coastal and adjoining areas, including Mumbai and neighbouring districts, after a brief slowdown in monsoon advancement.
Heavy Rain Warning in West Bengal
Parts of West Bengal remain under enhanced weather surveillance as intense rainfall activity continues. Authorities have issued higher-level alerts for northern districts vulnerable to very heavy precipitation, while several other regions may experience strong winds and prolonged spells of rain.
Tamil Nadu Forecast Points to Wet Week Ahead
Several districts in Tamil Nadu are expected to witness persistent rainfall through the week. The hill and western districts are likely to receive the highest precipitation, supporting favourable conditions for continued monsoon activity across the state.
Outlook
Meteorologists expect active monsoon conditions to persist in many parts of the country over the coming days. While the rainfall is likely to bring relief from intense summer temperatures in several regions, people are advised to remain alert for lightning, strong winds and sudden downpours that may affect normal activities.
