IMD Predicts Showers in South TN and Delta Areas, Fog to Blanket Western Belt
Fog likely in western districts while southern and delta regions may receive light showers; most areas to remain dry.
Tamil Nadu, Feb 04 : Residents across Tamil Nadu are set to experience varied weather conditions over the next few days, with foggy mornings, isolated rain, and a slight uptick in daytime temperatures, the Regional Meteorological Centre has said in its latest advisory.
Moderate fog is expected during the early hours in several western and north-western districts, particularly across hilly and interior pockets. Areas such as the Nilgiris, Salem, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tirupathur, Vellore, and Ranipet are likely to see misty conditions before sunrise, potentially reducing visibility on highways and ghat roads. Officials have urged motorists to exercise caution while travelling during these hours.
Meanwhile, parts of southern Tamil Nadu and the delta belt may witness scattered light rainfall on Thursday. Brief showers are also possible in Karaikal and nearby coastal stretches. Although the precipitation is not expected to be heavy, it may offer short-term respite from dry conditions and support agricultural activity in some regions.
For the rest of the state, including the Union Territory of Puducherry, weather is projected to remain largely dry, with clear to partly cloudy skies dominating most interior and northern districts.
Temperatures in inland areas are likely to edge above normal in the days ahead, leading to warmer afternoons that contrast with the cooler start brought on by fog and cloud cover.
Chennai is forecast to have partly cloudy skies without any significant rainfall. The city is expected to see moderate daytime warmth accompanied by relatively comfortable evenings.
With fluctuating conditions anticipated from mist laden mornings in elevated terrain to light rain in the south authorities have advised residents, farmers, and travellers to monitor local updates and plan accordingly.
