Imran Khan ‘Safe and in Good Health’, Say Punjab Jail Authorities KPK CM Barred From Visit
Jail authorities defend security and facilities for former PM as KPK Chief Minister stages 16 hour sit in demanding access
New Delhi, Nov 29: Punjab Prison Department officials on Friday reaffirmed that former Pakistan Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan is “completely safe and in good health” inside Adiala Jail, amid mounting political pressure and protests over restricted access to him.
Officials said Khan has access to all essential facilities, including weekly meetings with his wife Bushra Bibi, television, and newspapers. He has been allotted six rooms in one barrack and is permitted to order food from outside once a week, including chicken and fish. All interactions, they added, strictly follow jail rules and security protocols.
The statement comes hours after Adviser to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah claimed that Khan “wants to lead a movement from jail”, accusing him of attempting to orchestrate unrest from behind bars.
KPK CM’s 16 hour sit in after denied access
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, also a senior PTI leader, ended a 16-hour sit-in protest on Adiala Road after authorities provided no update on Khan’s condition and allegedly blocked all attempts to arrange a meeting.
“We spent the night here with the workers. If we have to spend our whole lives here for the PTI founder, we will do so,” Afridi said, accusing the administration of withholding information and ignoring court directives. He questioned, “What route is left for me to meet my leader?”
Afridi criticised the ruling PML-N, claiming that leaders who previously fled to London were allowed large delegations inside jails, while he was being barred from even a brief meeting.
Legal action planned; pressure builds
Following the end of the sit in, the KPK CM travelled to Islamabad to file a petition in the High Court seeking permission to meet Khan, and said he would raise the matter before the Chief Justice. He vowed to return to Adiala Road after submitting the petition, warning that non-enforcement of court orders would amount to “the rule of the jungle”.
Senior political leaders including TTAP chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Senator Gurdeep Singh, Senator Rubina Naz and MNA Zulfiqar Ahmed joined the protest, condemning what they described as the denial of constitutional rights.
Khan’s sister moves contempt plea
Separately, Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan filed a contempt petition in the Islamabad High Court against the Adiala Jail superintendent for not implementing a March 24 order that reinstated twice weekly visits on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Imran Khan’s incarceration
Imran Khan has been lodged in Adiala Jail since August 2023 and is serving multiple sentences, including a 14 year imprisonment in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case.
