India aim for strong home start in FIH Men’s Pro League 2025–26 as Rourkela leg kicks off
India, Feb 10 : The Indian men’s hockey team will kick off their FIH Men’s Pro League 2025–26 campaign on home turf during the Rourkela leg, taking place from February 10 to 15 at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium. India will face two of the world’s top-ranked teams, Belgium and Argentina, in a high-intensity start to the season.
After finishing eighth in the previous edition, India will look to build early momentum and register a strong start in front of their home fans. The squad blends experienced internationals with promising young talent, aiming to leverage familiar conditions for an impactful performance.
Fixtures and form guide
India will face Belgium on February 11 and Argentina on February 12, before a rematch against Belgium on February 14 and the final clash against Argentina on February 15. Argentina arrive in Rourkela sitting second in the standings with 11 points from four matches, while Belgium hold third place with 10 points, having secured three regulation time wins each.
Historically, Belgium have dominated India in recent encounters, winning 22 of the last 35 matches since 2013, while India have claimed 11 victories and two matches ended in draws. Against Argentina, India have a slightly stronger record, with 10 wins from 19 encounters.
Team confidence and youth injection
Speaking ahead of the opening match, Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh highlighted the inclusion of promising youngsters Amandeep Lakra, Manmeet Singh, and Rosan Kujur. “These players have performed exceptionally well in the Hero Hockey India League. The entire team is fit, motivated, and excited. This is the right time for young players to step up and make meaningful contributions,” he said.
Belgium squad optimistic
Belgium captain Arthur Van Doren expressed confidence in his team’s preparation, praising the experience gained from the Hero Hockey India League. “Arriving early gave us a solid training block and allowed the squad to gel. Many of our players performed well in India’s league, and we feel sharp, strong, and ready for the Rourkela leg,” he stated.
