India Enter Asian Games Action Across Teqball and Soft Tennis
Indian athletes begin competition in multiple disciplines as the Aichi-Nagoya Games move toward the official opening ceremony.
India, Sep 18 : India’s participation at the 2026 Asian Games expanded on September 18, with athletes competing across teqball and soft tennis alongside the women’s cricket team’s quarter final against Japan.
Quimcy Joaquim Dsouza was scheduled to compete in women’s singles teqball before joining Mohamed Anas Imran Beg in mixed doubles. The Indian pair also had several group stage matches scheduled during the day.
India’s men’s soft tennis team was also involved in Group C action, with matches against Laos, Chinese Taipei and Mongolia forming part of its opening schedule.
The women’s cricket team remained one of the major attractions of India’s programme. Harmanpreet Kaur’s side began its gold medal defence against hosts Japan in the quarter final at Korogi Athletic Park. India entered the knockout stage directly after recently winning the Women’s Asia Cup.
India is sending 503 athletes across 36 disciplines at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. The competition officially runs from September 19 to October 4, with several events beginning before the opening ceremony.
The early programme gives Indian athletes an opportunity to build momentum across less familiar and established disciplines before the Games enter their full competitive schedule.
