India Leads in AI Skills Adoption, Focuses on Minimal Regulation: Jitin Prasada

Minister highlights government’s focus on scalable AI solutions, affordable GPU access, and democratization of technology

New Delhi, Feb 16: India has achieved the highest level of artificial intelligence (AI) skill penetration globally and is pursuing a policy of minimal regulation to foster innovation, Union Minister Jitin Prasada stated on Monday.

Speaking at the AI Impact Summit 2026, the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology emphasized that the government remains agile, receptive to ideas, and fine-tunes policies based on current needs. He noted that India possesses the trajectory, scale, and speed to make a significant impact in the AI sector.

“We have maximum AI skill penetration, and our policy ensures we do not over-regulate, so innovation thrives,” Prasada said. He highlighted that affordable access to GPUs is being facilitated, enabling startups and future generations with top talent to design impactful AI solutions.

Prasada clarified that India is focusing on scalable AI models tailored to specific sectors, regions, or communities rather than competing directly with large global models. “The country is prioritizing AI applications that deliver tangible benefits locally,” he said, underscoring the government’s commitment to democratizing technology.

He added, “It’s not only about access; we must go deeper and create scalable solutions across all aspects. India is rightly positioned to achieve this.”

The minister’s remarks underscore India’s strategy of combining high skill adoption with practical, locally relevant AI solutions while maintaining a regulatory environment that encourages innovation.
