India Records Highest Single-Day Surge in COVID-19 Cases in 225 Days: 743 New Infections Reported

New Delhi, 30-12-2023 : On Saturday, India witnessed a substantial spike in COVID-19 cases, with 743 fresh infections reported, marking the highest single-day rise in 225 days, as per the latest update from the Union Health Ministry. The number of active cases currently stands at 3,997. The ministry’s data, updated at 8 am, also indicated seven new fatalities within a 24-hour period, with three reported in Kerala, two in Karnataka, and one each in Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu.

The trajectory of daily cases, which remained in double digits until December 5, has experienced an upward trend, attributed to the onset of cold weather conditions and the emergence of a new COVID-19 variant. While the peak of the pandemic in early 2020 saw daily case numbers in lakhs, the current figure of 743 indicates a concerning resurgence.
