India to Evacuate Stranded Citizens from Gulf After PM Modi’s Security Review
Cabinet Committee on Security directs coordinated support for travellers and students amid escalating Middle East tensions
New Delhi, Mar 2: The Government of India will extend assistance to its citizens in Gulf countries following a high level security review chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.
The Cabinet Committee on Security assessed the rapidly evolving situation in West Asia after recent military developments involving the United States and Israel. Officials expressed concern over the safety of the large Indian diaspora in the region, particularly travellers transiting through affected airspace and students scheduled to appear for examinations.
According to a statement issued by the Press Information Bureau, the committee directed all relevant departments to take feasible steps to support Indian nationals impacted by flight disruptions and security uncertainties. It also emphasized the need for de-escalation and a return to diplomatic engagement.
Sources indicated that large-scale evacuations are not being considered at this stage, as airspace closures and an unpredictable security climate complicate movement across parts of the Gulf.
The review followed intensified hostilities after coordinated US-Israeli strikes targeted Iran, reportedly killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei along with other senior figures. Tehran has since launched missile and drone operations against Israeli territory and American military installations in the region, while Israeli forces continued operations aimed at strategic military sites in Iran.
Authorities said India remains closely monitoring developments and stands prepared to respond swiftly should conditions warrant additional measures.
