India-UK Trade Deal Comes Into Effect, Opens New Opportunities for Exporters and Businesses
Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement aims to boost bilateral commerce, reduce tariffs and strengthen cooperation between India and the UK
New Delhi: A landmark trade agreement between India and the United Kingdom has officially come into force, marking a significant development in bilateral economic relations and creating fresh opportunities for exporters, industries and businesses in both countries.
The India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) is expected to provide greater market access for Indian companies by reducing trade barriers and allowing several export sectors to benefit from lower tariffs. The pact is aimed at increasing bilateral trade, encouraging investments and strengthening supply chain cooperation.
Under the agreement, a large share of Indian exports will receive improved access to the UK market, benefiting sectors such as textiles, engineering goods, leather products, pharmaceuticals, information technology and other labour-intensive industries. The deal is also expected to support small and medium enterprises looking to expand their international presence.
Industry experts believe the agreement could help Indian manufacturers compete more effectively in the British market while attracting additional foreign investment into India. The pact also includes provisions related to services, intellectual property protection and government procurement opportunities.
The trade partnership comes at a time when global economies are focusing on resilient supply chains and stronger economic partnerships amid geopolitical uncertainties. Businesses on both sides are expected to benefit from improved regulatory cooperation and easier market access.
