India Urges Global Community to Prevent LeT and JeM From Using Afghan Territory for Terrorism
India emphasizes humanitarian aid, development partnerships, and regional cooperation to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan.
United Nations, Sep 18: India has called on the international community to ensure that UN-designated terrorist groups, including Pakistan based Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), along with their facilitators, no longer exploit Afghan territory for terrorist activities.
Speaking at the UN Security Council meeting on Afghanistan, India’s Permanent Representative Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish said, “The international community must coordinate efforts to ensure that entities and individuals designated by the UN Security Council, ISIL, Al Qaeda, and their affiliates, including LeT and JeM, are prevented from operating from Afghan soil.”
Harish highlighted India’s close civilizational ties with Afghanistan and its “paramount interest” in promoting peace and stability in the war-torn country. He stressed that post-conflict strategies must combine incentivizing positive behavior with disincentivizing harmful actions, rather than relying solely on punitive measures.
The ambassador also outlined India’s ongoing humanitarian support, including immediate relief after last month’s earthquake — 1,000 family tents, 36 tonnes of food and medical supplies, and more aid en route building on support since August 2021. India has implemented over 500 development partnership projects across all provinces, including drug rehabilitation programs, social support for women, and capacity-building initiatives.
Harish reiterated that India’s commitment to the Afghan people is “non-negotiable,” calling for coordinated international and regional efforts to ensure a stable, peaceful, and prosperous Afghanistan.
