Indian-American Ajay Bhutoria Appointed to California Regulatory Board
Fremont based technology leader and former Biden administration advisory commissioner to serve as a public member of the state regulatory body.
WASHINGTON, Oct 1: Indian-American technology leader Ajay Bhutoria has been appointed as a public member of the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists, a state regulatory body responsible for overseeing professional standards in the sector.
California Governor Gavin Newsom announced Bhutoria’s appointment on Wednesday. The position does not require confirmation from the California State Senate.
The board functions under the California Department of Consumer Affairs and is tasked with protecting public health, safety, property and welfare by establishing licensing standards and regulating the practice of engineering, land surveying and geology throughout the state.
According to a statement from Newsom’s office, Bhutoria is the Founder and Principal of Global Business Consulting Services. He previously served from 2021 to 2024 as a Commissioner on President Joe Biden’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.
A resident of Fremont, California, Bhutoria holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Chemical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli.
He brings around two decades of experience in enterprise technology leadership and software architecture, along with experience in public service, to his new role on the board.
Reacting to the appointment, Bhutoria said he was honoured by Newsom’s confidence and described the position as an opportunity to contribute to an important state institution.
He said he plans to draw on his experience in enterprise artificial intelligence, emerging technologies and process optimisation to support efforts aimed at reforming, streamlining and modernising the board’s systems and processes.
Bhutoria’s appointment adds another public service role to his professional career, which spans technology leadership, consulting and engagement with government advisory initiatives.
