Indian Envoy Kwatra Holds Talks with Senior US State Department Officials
Talks at India House cover key areas of India-US cooperation, including security, trade, energy and the Indo-Pacific
WASHINGTON, Aug 20: India’s Ambassador to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra held talks with senior officials of the US State Department, including Assistant Secretary of State S Paul Kapur, as the two sides reviewed developments in the India-US relationship.
Kapur, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Bethany Poulos Morrison and other senior officials met Kwatra at India House in Washington on Wednesday.
Following the meeting, Kwatra said the discussions focused on developments across several areas of the India-US bilateral partnership. The envoy shared details of the engagement in a post on X, describing the meeting with Kapur and his team as an opportunity to exchange views on key areas of cooperation.
The talks come amid continued efforts by New Delhi and Washington to strengthen their strategic partnership and expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
Kapur had travelled to India earlier this month, where he participated in the US-India Strategic Dialogue organised by the Observer Research Foundation in partnership with the US Naval Postgraduate School.
During his visit, Kapur highlighted several important dimensions of the relationship, including cooperation through the Quad, trade, security and energy.
In a post on August 5, Kapur said his participation in the strategic dialogue provided an opportunity to discuss the broader bilateral relationship and areas of shared interest between the two countries.
He also emphasised the importance of India-US cooperation in advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific.
The latest meeting between Kwatra and senior State Department officials underscores the continuing diplomatic engagement between the two countries on strategic and economic priorities.
The discussions are also significant as India and the US continue to work together on regional security, energy cooperation, trade and broader Indo-Pacific initiatives.
With senior officials from both sides maintaining regular consultations, New Delhi and Washington are seeking to deepen coordination on issues that form the foundation of their strategic partnership.
