Indian Karting Star Atiqa Mir Joins World Karting Champions Modena for WSK 2026 Season

Eleven year old Atiqa becomes first Indian female in OKNJ category, set to compete against world class drivers in prestigious WSK series

La Conca (Italy), Jan 24: Indian karting sensation Atiqa Mir has secured a coveted drive with reigning world champions, Modena Racing Team, for the 2026 WSK championship season, often referred to as the ‘Formula 1’ of karting. At just 11 years old, Atiqa has chosen the challenging junior category (age 12-14) to accelerate her growth and compete at the highest level.

Following her stellar performances in the mini category (age 8-12) last year, the Formula 1 Academy-supported driver has been signed for the full season, which includes the WSK Super Master Series, WSK Euro Series, and WSK Final Cup.

Atiqa will make history as the first Indian female driver in the OKNJ category and will be the only girl among 37 elite international competitors. The WSK series attracts top talent from across the globe and provides a platform for young drivers to enhance racecraft, technical knowledge, and motorsport acumen a pathway followed by Formula 1 champions like Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, and Sebastian Vettel.

Transitioning from 10 bhp engines in the mini category to 29 bhp karts capable of reaching 126 kmph with G-forces over 2.5 presents a significant challenge. Atiqa’s physical fitness and adaptability will be key as she faces some of the world’s best young drivers.

“I am thrilled and grateful to Modena for this opportunity. Competing against the best in the world is a huge challenge, but I am ready to learn and improve,” Atiqa said.

Her father, Asif Mir India’s first National Karting Champion explained the decision to move her directly into the junior category. “We want to fast-track Atiqa’s development. Staying in Mini would have meant easier victories, but our focus is Formula 1. This year will be a tough learning curve, but she is ready for it,” he said.

Atiqa’s WSK 2026 campaign kicks off on January 25 with Round 1 of the Super Master Series in La Conca, Italy.
