India’s Core Infrastructure Output Accelerates to 5% Growth in June
Stronger performance in key sectors signals improving industrial activity and provides support to the broader economic outlook.
New Delhi, July 20: India’s core infrastructure sector recorded stronger growth in June, with output rising 5 per cent year on year and pointing to improved activity across major parts of the economy.
The latest performance marked an acceleration from the revised 3.2 per cent growth recorded in May, highlighting a pickup in infrastructure related production. The eight core industries form a significant component of India’s industrial output and include sectors such as coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilisers, steel, cement and electricity.
The improvement in June comes as policymakers continue to focus on infrastructure investment as a key driver of economic expansion. Higher production in core industries can support manufacturing, construction, transportation and other downstream activities.
The data also provides an important indicator of industrial momentum ahead of the release of broader factory output figures. Sustained expansion in infrastructure-linked sectors could help strengthen capital expenditure and create additional demand across supply chains.
Energy and raw-material intensive industries remain particularly important for the country’s growth trajectory. Changes in their production levels can influence corporate activity and investment decisions across several sectors.
The June figures therefore offer a positive signal for India’s industrial economy, although businesses continue to monitor global commodity prices, geopolitical developments and financing conditions.
Economists and investors are expected to assess whether the improved performance can continue in the coming months as domestic demand, government spending and private sector investment shape the pace of economic expansion.
