India’s Foreign Secretary Visits Nepal Ahead of PM’s Upcoming Trip

Misri's November 4-5 visit will focus on reviewing bilateral ties and preparing the ground for Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah's proposed visit to India later this month.

KATHMANDU, Nov. 3: Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will undertake a two-day visit to Nepal from November 4 to 5, with discussions expected to pave the way for Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s proposed trip to India later this month.

Shah is likely to visit India during the last week of November, marking his first bilateral overseas visit since taking office in March. However, the dates of his proposed visit have not yet been officially confirmed, according to Nepalese Foreign Ministry sources.

Misri’s visit comes at the invitation of Nepal’s Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, the Nepalese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement.

During his stay, Misri will hold bilateral talks with Rai, covering the broader aspects of relations between the two neighbouring countries. The discussions will also include issues of mutual interest, with both sides seeking to strengthen their longstanding diplomatic partnership and friendly ties.

The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for the two countries to assess ongoing cooperation and discuss matters of shared concern.

Apart from the official-level discussions, Misri is scheduled to pay courtesy calls on senior Nepalese leaders and other dignitaries. He is also likely to meet Prime Minister Shah during his visit, a Nepalese official said.

The Indian Foreign Secretary’s trip is being viewed as an important diplomatic engagement ahead of Shah’s expected visit to New Delhi, which could provide fresh momentum to bilateral relations.
