Jairam Ramesh Seeks PM Modi’s Response on US-China Strategic Competition Report

Congress MP questions government’s stance after USCC report labels Pahalgam terror attack as “insurgent attack” and claims Pakistan achieved “military success”

New Delhi, Nov 20: Congress leader and MP Jairam Ramesh on Thursday demanded clarification from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission’s (USCC) annual report, which controversially described the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack as an “insurgent attack” and claimed Pakistan secured “military success” in the four-day clash.

Ramesh criticised the government’s silence and referred to former US President Donald Trump’s claim of halting India’s Operation Sindoor, highlighting potential diplomatic setbacks.

In a series of pointed questions, Ramesh asked:

Will the Prime Minister and the Ministry of External Affairs formally register objections and protest?

How does the government respond to the USCC’s description of the Pahalgam attack?

What steps will be taken regarding the report’s assertion of Pakistan’s “military success” over India?

Calling the report “simply unacceptable to India,” Ramesh stressed that the country’s diplomacy has suffered a serious setback and urged the government to clarify its stance publicly.
