Jairam Ramesh slams Modi government over Quad Summit diplomacy, stalled US trade pact
Congress leader questions Centre’s handling of Quad Summit, Operation Sindoor, and India-US trade talks, calling them signs of ‘faltering diplomacy’
New Delhi, Nov 3 : Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Modi government, accusing it of mishandling key foreign policy initiatives, including the Quad Summit, the India–US trade deal, and the recently halted Operation Sindoor.
In a post on X, Ramesh expressed disappointment over what he called India’s “faltering foreign policy,” noting, “There was a time when we were told India would be hosting the Quad Summit in November 2025. That is now not happening.”
The senior Congress leader also drew attention to the stalled trade negotiations with the United States, alleging that India had failed to secure a crucial economic agreement despite early assurances. “India was supposed to be among the earliest to sign a trade deal with the US. That supposed deal has become an ordeal while exports to the US decline, leading to loss of livelihoods here,” Ramesh wrote.
Turning to defence matters, Ramesh criticised the Modi government’s handling of Operation Sindoor, a military campaign that was abruptly halted. “President Trump has for the 57th time repeated why and how Operation Sindoor was unexpectedly halted with the first announcement coming from Washington, not New Delhi,” he said.
Ramesh’s remarks come amid increasing opposition scrutiny of the government’s diplomatic and economic strategies, as critics argue that India’s global standing has been undermined by inconsistent decision-making and poor communication.
